Burkina Faso: Premier says arrest of coup leader is imminent

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – Two days after the attack launched against the ex-coup leaders whose chief General Gilbert Diendéré has found refuge in a diplomatic mission in Ouagadougou, Prime Minister Yacouba Isaac Zida said Thursday that his arrest was very imminent.

"It’s only a question of hours and we will be able to take him back and bring him before the court," said Zida as he officiated at the reassembly of courts, noting that Burkina Faso is "respectful" of that diplomatic enclave.

"For this reason, we cannot violate it. We are negotiating so that he is handed back to us. But, we are not aware of the fact that they need certain guarantees, particularly that his life is spared. We gave them that reassurance," he said.

The late Tuesday attack on the ex-putschists, who had refused to be disarmed, left no casualty, said President Kafando when he visited the camp Wednesday, now controlled by loyalist troops.
