Burkina Faso: Opposition calls on government to secure places of worship
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The Burkina Faso opposition on Tuesday called on the government to secure places of worship, two days after the attack on a Protestant church that killed 24 people in the village of Pansi, in the Sahel.
In a press briefing, the Opposition said it was deeply dismayed by this attack perpetrated by an armed group in the village of Pansi, in the province of Yagha, which left 24 dead and 18 wounded, according to the published report by the government.
The Opposition presented "its sincere condolences to the grieving families and to the Christian community of Burkina Faso and wished a speedy and total recovery to the injured".
"It is imperative that the state secures places of worship, as well as other places where citizens gather," said the Opposition’s opening statement.
"It is also necessary that the Government create a National Observatory of Religious Liberties, made up of the eminences of the main religions, to ensure that the enemies, through well-designed communication and manipulation strategies, do not succeed in creating an interfaith confrontation ", considers the Opposition.
Since the start of the terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso in 2015, several places of worship have been attacked.
Religious dignitaries (Muslim or Christian) have been killed or kidnapped by terrorists in several localities of the country.
