Burkina Faso: Defense and security forces have been strengthened, says PM

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The Defense and Security Forces of Burkina Faso have been strengthened as part of the fight against terrorism in the country, said Prime Minister Christophe Dabiré.

"Today, our Defense and Security Forces (FDS) have been reinforced with human capacities, training and equipment," Dabiré said in Sindou, in the Léraba (West), during a meeting with the living forces of the province.

Mr. Dabiré was quoted by the local press as saying "We have redeployed the SDS by ensuring that there are advanced crisis management staffs. We have installed them to the east, in the North Center, in the Soum".

"These advanced headquarters are headed by colonels, who have taken over the management of the military question on the ground," he said, adding that arrangements are underway on "the need to create advanced staffs in the Southwest and Cascade regions, especially on the borders with Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana and Mali.

Several regions of Burkina Faso have been plagued by terrorist attacks since 2015.
