Burkina Faso: 134 films selected officially for FESPACO 2015

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) –The 24th edition of the Pan-African Cinema and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) will be held from 28 February to 7 March 2015, with a total of 134 films selected for the competition out of 700 declared at the beginning.

For this year’s edition of the African film festival, which was nearly postponed because of the deadly Ebola epidemic, the films are divided into five categories.

Twenty films are in the long-film category, 22 films for the official short-film category, 20 for official documentary, 9 for TV series and 15 for African cinema schools.

The 24th edition of FESPACO is on the theme, "African cinema and broadcasting at the digital era."

The Burkina Faso minister in charge of Tourism and Culture, Jean-Claude Dioma, said he was pleased about the consideration of films made by digital material in the competition.

He said that the move to digitalize cinematography and the opening of films of the 24th edition to digital support meant that all actors of the sector, as well as political decision-makers, were urged to create the ways and means to promote the quality production means.

With Egypt as guest of honour, the jury will be presided by Ghanaian film director, Kwaw Ansah.
