Botswana president to attend World Economic Forum

Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - Botswana's president Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi on Thursday left for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting which marks the 50th Anniversary of the Forum slated for 21-24th January.

An official communique said the President will engage in panel discussions, bilateral meetings, media events, and structured discussions on a range of issues, with specific focus on potential benefits for Botswana’s development agenda.

This year WEF will be held under the theme, ‘Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World’. It is expected to be attended by over 3,000 participants from around the world, comprising world leaders, the business community, international organisations, civil society, media and academia.

In addition, six key thematic areas will guide the meeting’s programme: ecology, economy, geopolitics, industry, society and technology.

In this context, the discussions will include peace and security issues, climate change, and mobilisation of global consensus on the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.

President Masisi participated for the first time at the 49th WEF Annual Meeting, which was held in Davos in January 2019.

Meanwhile the President will undertake working visits to Antwerp, Belgium and Paris, France, to engage with key stakeholders in the diamond industry and the private sector on issues of strategic interest to Botswana.
