Beninese police arrest nine alleged cyber criminals in Sèmè Podji

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - The Beninese police on Tuesday arrested nine individuals suspected of being cyber criminals, police sources said on Thursday in Cotonou.

The suspects were arrested in Sèmè-Podji (a locality in the South-East of the country).

The police, who had arrested two individuals with eight laptops and two android computers, were put on the trail of a group that was waiting for them in a house.

At the scene, seven other suspects were arrested with 15 other laptops of various brands and accessories, 16 mobile phones with compromising contents, pellets of Indian hemp, cash valued at 65,000 Nigerian naira, and other items that could lead to suspicion of cybercrime.

The nine individuals are currently in police custody while investigations continue for more evidence and to eventually nab the entire network.

A few days earlier, some 20 suspected cyber criminals were apprehended in the same area during two operations by the Republican Police. They had in their possessions 21 laptops, 27 mobile phones, modems, bank cards and cash in CFA francs and Nigerian naira.
