Benin to acquire cardiac surgery equipment

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - The government of Benin intends to acquire cardiac surgery equipment for the Hubert Koutoukou Maga de Cotonou University Hospital (CNHU-HKM, the largest in the country), official sources said Wednesday.

Installation of the equipment will strengthen the existing technical platform with equipment and materials dedicated to the surgical management of certain diseases including open-heart surgery.

In addition, the government has solicited experienced surgeons in the field to perform operations at the CNHU-HKM.

Due to high cost abroad, many Beninese patients of cardiovascular diseases fail to get appropriate care when such cases require open-heart surgery.
