Benin gets rid of obsolete ammunition

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - The Beninese government destroyed obsolete ammunition or those in poor condition, official sources in Cotonou said on Sunday.

The operation aims to control the illicit circulation of small arms and light weapons in Benin and in the ECOWAS region.

It also aims to clean up stocks of weapons and ammunition and thus reduce the risk of pyrotechnic accidents that can be harmful to military personnel and installations, as well as to the population.

In several countries, the storage conditions of these munitions sometimes present explosion hazards and potential risks of splinters, causing huge damage and sometimes loss of life.
