Béchir Zabiyeh named Journalist of the Year in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Writer and journalist Bechir Zabiyeh has been named Journalist of the Year in Libya, the Organising Committee  of the award announced on Monday, as part of the activities of Tripoli, Arab Media Capital 2022.

The second edition of the award took place in the presence of several personalities including the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Mr. Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba.

Born on 3 May 1955, Zabiyeh, current editor-in-chief of the Libyan newspaper and portal "Al-Wasat", is a former director of the Libyan News Agency.

He started his career at the Libyan News Agency, where he worked at its headquarters in Tripoli and in its foreign bureaus in several countries in Paris, France, then as a correspondent for the agency in Tehran, Iran, and Damascus, Syria.

He worked as deputy director of the Libyan News Agency before being promoted to director in 1993 and 1994, and director of the Libyan News Agency between 2011 and 2012. In 2013, Zabiyeh became editor-in-chief of Al-Wasat newspaper and Al-Wasat news website.

In addition, the organising committee of the Prize announced the winners of the Honorary State Prize for Journalism, which was won by Aida al-Kabti, the first Libyan television presenter in 1968, and Hassan Mohamed al-Amin, chairman of the board of the Libya Al-Mostakbal Centre for Media and Culture.
