Barrow names new Health, Agriculture ministers

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) – President Adama Barrow on Wednesday named two new ministers as replacements for the sacked Agriculture Minister and the Health Minister who was elevated to the position of the Vice-President.

According to a statement signed by Amie Bojang Sissoho, the Head of Public Relations at President Barrow’s office in Banjul, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh has been named as the new Health Minister while Mrs. Amie Fabureh is now the Minister of Agriculture with effect from 27 March 2019.

Dr. Samateh, 47, was the Chief Medical Director of Gambia’s Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, the main referral hospital in the tiny West African country.

He replaces Dr. Isatou Touray, who is now Gambia’s Vice President following the dropping of Ousainou Darboe as Vice President.

Since 2002, Dr. Samateh has served as a Senior Consultant General Surgeon and Head of Department of Surgery at the same hospital. He is also a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of The Gambia.

Dr. Samateh is a member of many professional bodies including The Gambia Medical and Dental Council, The Gambia Government and Medical Research Council Joint Ethical Committee.

Mrs. Fabureh, 49, has been working at the Ministry of Agriculture for over three decades.  She worked extensively in different parts of the Gambia in various capacities.
