Barkhane Force Commander briefs Burkina Faso President on operations

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré of Burkina Faso on Thursday met with the Barkhane Force Commander, Maj. Gen.  Marc Conruyt, who presented him with the results of operations in the Sahel in the fight against terrorism.

According to an official source, the head of the Barkhane force said the meeting was an opportunity for him to update the Head of State on the operations carried out by Barkhane, in collaboration with the National Armies of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.

Gen. Conruyt also discussed with the president about the last operations of the Barkhane force in the Sahel, indicating that actions are planned with the Burkinabè, Malian and Nigerien armies as part of the fight against terrorism.

Led by the French Army, in partnership with the G5 Sahel countries, Operation Barkhane was launched on August 1, 2014. It is based on a strategic approach of partnership with the main countries of the Sahel-Saharan Strip (BSS): Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad.

It brings together around 5,100 troops whose mission is to fight armed terrorist groups and support the armed forces of partner countries.
