BBC, others in joint effort to fight fake news

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) - A new joint effort to deal with fake news has been put in place by the British public media, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced in a statement sent to PANA on Monday.

This initiative, which brings together other international media, aims to collectively define the principles of joint actions to fight against false information.

It will include an operational alert system between the media that is involved in the most dangerous false information that could be threats to people's lives or the democratic process during the elections.

In addition, stakeholders in this initiative will provide the public with easy access to essential information during elections. Similarly, they will share their experiences, particularly on high-stake elections and will initiate a joint digital education campaign.

The stakeholder organizations are the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Facebook, Financial Times, Agence France Presse (AFP), First Draft, Google, Hindu, Wall Street Journal, CBC / Radio Canada, Microsoft , Reuters and the Institute for Journalism Studies of Reuters.
