Armed robbers kill international journalist working on documentary in Ghana

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - A journalist from the London-based television channel, MTA International, Taalay Ahmed, was Monday killed by armed robbers while working in Ghana, local media reported here Friday.

Ahmed was attacked along with another colleague, Umaru Abdul Hakim, on the Tamale-Buipe highway at Mpaha Junction in the Nothern Region on Monday, 23 August, while working on a documentary, a report by mynewsgh.com said here Friday.
The incident was confirmed by the Northern regional police command.
A statement by the officer in charge at Buipe, Chief Inspector George Gyasi, said Ahmed and Hakim were travelling on a Toyota Hiace vehicle when they were crossed by some armed men who opened fire on them after deflating the tyres of their vehicle.
The robbers, however, fled into the bush before the police got to the scene.
The report added that the armed men robbed them of their mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.
The police rushed the victims to the Buipe Polyclinic but were later transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where Ahmed was pronounced dead.
