Arab foreign ministers examine ways to achieve peace in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Briefing the Presidential Council Member, Ahmed Maitig, of Libya's National Unity Government (GNU) on Thursday, the Foreign Minister of the GNU, Mohamed Siala, said the 152nd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Foreign Ministers was devoted to "an examination of the position of the GNUon the aggression against Tripoli and its right to defend the capital.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office, according to a statement from the government's communication and media department, posted on its website.

The meeting also discussed the results of the meeting and the steps to be taken in the next phase.

Arab Foreign Ministers reaffirmed on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, the importance of preserving Libya's sovereignty and rejected all forms of external interference.

The 152nd ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, concluded in its recommendations that the implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement of Skhirat should be supported as the only reference for the political solution and the role of the legitimate institutions resulting from this agreement.

The Council of the League of Arab States has expressed deep concern at the military escalation threatening security and stability in Libya, neighboring countries and the entire region, calling for an immediate ceasefire, stressing that a political solution is the only way to restore stability in Libya and eliminate terrorism.

In his speech at the meeting, Mr. Siala called on the pan-Arab organization to "break its silence in the face of the Libyan crisis and to take a clear position to put an end to the military support to the aggressive forces" in the capital, Tripoli, in reference to the ongoing war in the south of the capital since last April 4.

He added that "Marshal Haftar's attack on the capital ignored all international resolutions and even before the decision of the Arab summit in Tunisia to judge the need to continue the political process," according to a previous statement.
