Alleged Tunisian terrorists from Libya arrested
Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) – Several individuals sued by Tunisian courts and wanted by the security forces were arrested Tuesday and are being interrogated, Tunisian media sources said here Tuesday.
Those individuals, who were among a number of Tunisians returning from Libya, were arrested within the framework of strict controls carried out by the Tunisian security services at the border point of Ras Jadir.
The same sources indicated that the Tunisian authorities had strengthened the control measures following fears the alleged terrorist elements would infiltrate Tunisia after the release of detainees in prisons from Libyan western cities.
The Tunisian security Monday arrested an individual filmed insulting Tunisian President Kais Saied and treating Tunisians as ‘dogs’ and ’agents of France’ among the hundreds of Tunisians stranded in Libya who were attempting to force their way through the main border post, media reports said.
"The army and security units are carrying out the mission assigned to them," said the governor of the region of Medenine who has jurisdiction over Ras Jadir, saying “Tunisia’s security is a red line”.
The chairman of the Tunisian human rights watchdog, Moustapha Abdelkrim, said Monday’s troubles at Ras Jadir "is the inevitable result of the absence of clear strategy in the treatment of Tunisian workers stranded in Libya".
