Algeria welcomes declaration of immediate ceasefire in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – In a telephone discussion between the Algerian and Libyan ministers of foreign affairs, Sabri Boukadoum (Algeria) and Mohamed Siala (Libya), Algeria on Saturday welcomed the simultaneous declaration of immediate ceasefire made by two Libyan parties, according to a tweet by the spokesperson for the Libyan ministry of foreign affairs, Mohamed Kablaoui.

The declarations were made by the chairman of the Libyan presidential council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Serraj, and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh.

Both men declared a ceasefire all over the Libyan national territory and the adoption of ‘’inclusive’’ dialogue that should mark the end of the Libyan crisis.

The two parties also pleaded for the resumption of oil production and export which revenues will be paid into a special account of the Libyan foreign bank and used only after the a political solution to the Libyan crisis is found, in accordance with the recommendations from the Berlin Conference.

Algeria has proposed to host dialogue between the Libyan parties to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis, at the end of the declaration for immediate ceasefire announced by Mr Al-Sarraj and Mr Aguila.

"Algeria welcomes the announcements and the activation of the political process through inclusive dialogue to end the Libyan crisis," a communiqué of the Algerian minister of foreign affairs said.

"Algeria has taken note with satisfaction of the consensual initiative that reflects the will of the Libyans to resolve the crisis and achieve sovereignty of the Libyan people," the minister said.

The Algerian minister said that Algeria had all along worked through regional and international levels for an end to the bloodshed in Libya.
