Africa Week celebration begins in Paris

Paris, France (PANA) - A major exhibition was inaugurated Tuesday in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, as part of the Africa Week events organized to celebrate the establishment in May 1963 of the Organization of African Unity (OAU, now African Union).

During the celebration, art objects, traditional clothing, jewelry and culinary products from different African countries will be presented to the public in the great hall of the UNESCO for a week.

According to its organizers, the African Week will continue with a panel discussion entitled "Africa, global priority of UNESCO", led Tuesday afternoon by the Deputy Director General of UNESCO responsible for the Africa Department, Ms. Lala Ben Barka.

Four other thematic conferences and film screenings are planned as part of Africa Week this year symbolically placed under the patronage of former South African president Nelson Mandela.

An evening gala will mark on Friday the closure of the Africa Week, organized under the auspices of the UNESCO African Group.
