Acting Tunisian President calls for continuation of tripartite initiative for Libya

Tunis , Tunisia (PANA) - Acting Tunisian President, Mohamed Bennaceur, at a meeting on Friday with his foreign affairs minister, Khemaies Jhinaoui, has stressed "the importance of continuing efforts under the tripartite initiative (Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt) to advance the political process in Libya, bring the fighting to a halt and return to dialogue and negotiations between the warring parties.

He said the move will restore security and stability in this "brotherly country", a statement from the Tunisian presidency indicated.

The tripartite initiative is the result of the Tunis Declaration of 20 February, 2017, to support a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis. It aims to help those involved in the Libyan crisis to dialogue in order to reach a consensual solution to get Libya out of the deep crisis that is hitting the country since the fall of Colonel Muammar Qadhafi's regime in 2011.

The meeting also addressed the next most important diplomatic meetings, including the 7th session of the Tokyo Conference on Development in Africa, scheduled for 28-30 August in Japan, for which the Tunisian delegation will be led by Mr. Jhinaoui.
