AUC Chairperson welcomes MoU on Rwanda, Uganda relations

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat has welcomed the signing on Wednesday of a Memorandum of Understanding to improve political and economic relations between the governments of Rwanda and Uganda.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda signed the deal in the Angolan capital Luanda.

The event was witnessed by the presidents of Angola Joao Lourenco, Democratic Republic of Congo's Felix Tshisekedi and Congo's Denis Sassou Nguesso

In a statement issued by the AUC on Friday, the Chairperson commended the leadership shown by Kagame and Museveni to resolve their differences through dialogue in the spirit of regional cooperation.

Also, the Chairperson  commended the facilitation role played by the regional leaders and President Sassou Nguesso in his capacity as Chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).

The agreement calls for the resumption as soon as possible of cross-border activities between Rwanda and Uganda, including the movement of persons and goods, for the development and improvement of the lives of their populations.
