Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has extended his sincere congratulations to Khaled El-Enany, former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, on his election as Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
“H.E. Youssouf applauds H.E. El-Enany’s exemplary track record in leadership and public service, particularly in the fields of culture, education, and heritage,” a statement by the African Union said on Tuesday.
He expressed his strong confidence in Mr. El-Enany’s ability to lead UNESCO with vision and dedication at a time when international cooperation is more essential than ever.
The Chairperson reaffirmed the African Union’s “enduring commitment to deepening collaboration with UNESCO in advancing inclusive and quality education, fostering scientific excellence, and preserving the continent’s cultural wealth”.
Mr. Youssouf further emphasised the shared ambition to accelerate the implementation of both the African Union’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
“The African Union Commission stands ready to engage closely with H.E. El-Enany and the UNESCO Secretariat to promote joint initiatives that inspire and empower African youth, support innovation and creativity, and protect Africa’s rich cultural and natural heritage for future generations,” Mr. Youssouf concluded.
