AU condemns the terrorist attack on Malian army camp

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The African Union (AU) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a Malian armed forces post in Indelimane, on the Niger border, and reaffirmed its full confidence in the government's efforts to track down terrorists and bring them to justice.

In a statement received by PANA on Friday, AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat said he was outraged to learn of the terrorist attack last Friday, against the Malian armed forces camp in Indelimane, on the Menaka-Ansongo axis, in the Menaka region, which killed 53 people, injured several and caused extensive material damage.

The Chairperson the AUC has "strongly condemned this heinous attack" at a time when the Malian authorities are intensifying efforts to promote lasting peace to Mali through the inclusive National Political Dialogue.

He paid tribute to the "memory of the valiant soldiers who fell on the field of honour", offered his sincere condolences to the grieving families and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.

The Chairperson of the AUC also reiterated his confidence in the measures that the Government of Mali will take to bring to justice the alleged perpetrators of this terrorist attack and continue its efforts to achieve the security of persons and property throughout the country.
