AU, UN to cooperate for the implementation of the UN Action Plan in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The United Nations (UN) has welcomed closer cooperation with the African Union (AU) for the implementation of the Action Plan of the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to resolve the crisis in the north African country.

The Support Mission of Nations in Libya (UNSMIL), which is sponsoring the political process in the country, has put in place an Action Plan developed by Ghassan Salamé, head of UNSMIL, on the holding of an inclusive National Conference to arrive at a consensus on an electoral agenda, including legislative elections, a referendum on the constitution and presidential election.

In a tweet published Monday, the UN Support Mission in Libya wrote the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, and UN Special Envoy to Libya, Salamé, welcomed the decision to further cooperate with the African Union to lobby for the implementation of the UN plan for Libya.

This decision was made on the sidelines of the meeting of the AU High Level Committee on Libya in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of the 32nd AU Summit.
The source said that the two UN officials informed the participants of the latest developments in Libya and the conduct of the political process.

The meeting is part of the continuing cooperation and coordination of the Arab League, the African Union, the United Nations and the European Union in support of the political process in Libya.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission and President of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki took part in this meeting.
