AU, EU leaders to convene for 7th summit in Angola
Addis Abba, Ethiopia (PANA) - The 7th AU–EU Summit will be held on 24–25 November 2025 in Luanda, Angola, bringing together Heads of State and Government from the African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) to reaffirm their long-standing partnership and chart a renewed path of cooperation.
A press release by the AU on Friday said the Summit would be co-chaired by João Lourenço, President of Angola and Chairperson of the AU, and António Costa, President of the European Council. African Union Commission chairman, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission will be in attendance.
The AU said the summit taking place at a time of profound global uncertainties and shifting geopolitical dynamics, offers an opportunity for both continents to reaffirm their shared commitment to multilateralism, solidarity, and joint action to address common challenges.
It will mark the 25th Anniversary of the AU–EU Partnership and coincide with Angola’s Presidency of the African Union underscoring Africa’s growing leadership in defining global objectives.
The press release said discussions will focus on advancing joint priorities within the framework of Agenda 2063 The Africa We Want, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the AU-EU Joint Vision for 2030.
“Leaders will explore concrete ways to accelerate progress in areas such as peace and security, economic integration, trade and investment, multilateral governance, climate resilience, digital transformation, migration and mobility, and human development.”
It said the gathering will build on the outcomes of the 3rd AU-EU Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels in May 2025, during which ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a partnership rooted in shared values, mutual interests, and collective aspirations for sustainable development and stability.
A series of key side events will precede the Summit, ensuring broad-based participation and inclusive dialogue.
This includes the AU–EU Youth and Civil Society Forum from 20–21 November the will bring together young leaders, innovators, and civil society organisations from Africa and Europe to exchange perspectives and develop policy recommendations on issues including youth employment, innovation, climate resilience, governance, and social inclusion.
The outcomes will inform leaders’ discussions at the Summit.
There will also be the AU–EU Business Forum 24–25 November being co-organised with African Business, European Business, and other private-sector partners.
It will provide a platform for entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers to explore partnerships in infrastructure, sustainable energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, digital economy, and the creative industries.
“These forums embody the AU–EU’s shared commitment to inclusive engagement, ensuring that the voices of youth, civil society, and the private sector contribute meaningfully to the future of the partnership,” the press release said.
