ACP summit 'a success', says Botswana President Masisi

Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - The Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has said the just concluded African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) summit in Nairobi was a success and timely, as bloc was at the crossroads.

He said it had to find ways to reposition itself to address challenges faced in a contemporary world. “This makes it relevant to itself, members and partners,” he said at a press conference on his arrival home from Nairobi.

The summit was held under the theme: “A Transformed ACP: Committed to Multilateralism.”

The ACP deals with “sustainable development which assists poor developing countries as they attempt to trade economically with a solid European block,” he said.

“The ACP sought to reinvent itself to become a more structured organisation to respond to challenges of a multilateral nature,” President Masisi said, adding that the challenges faced by its members call for multilateralism as a unifying factor.
