78 cases of Ebola virus disease recorded in Equateur, DR Congo

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) – Seventy-eight cases of Ebola virus disease, including 74 confirmed cases and four probable cases, have been recorded in Equateur province, north-west of DR Congo, since the declaration of this eleventh epidemic on 1 June, official source told PANA here Saturday.

According to the daily bulletin of the ministry of Health on the epidemiological situation, there were 33 deaths and 31 people cured.

The bulletin also reported that a new confirmed case of Ebola virus disease was reported in the Ingende health zone in Equateur province on Friday.

No new deaths have been recorded among the confirmed cases. However, two patients were cured and released from Ebola treatment centers (CTE) in Wangata and Bolomba.

The bulletin also indicated that 20,084 people had been vaccinated with the rVSV-ZEBOV-GP vaccine since June 05.

Currently, eight health zones have been affected by the Ebola virus disease epidemic in Equateur province since the start of this eleventh epidemic on June 1, 2020.

These include the health zones of Bikoro, Bolomba, Iboko, Mbandaka, Lotumbe, Wangata, Ingende and Lolango-Mampoko.

Since the start of the epidemic, the cumulative number of travellers checked (temperature measurement) at health checkpoints stands at 497,370.

To date, 16 points of entry and health control have been set up in Equateur province to protect neighboring areas, as well as other major cities in the country and to prevent the spread of the epidemic in neighboring countries.
