6th meeting of ECOWAS forum on Monitoring Assessment opens in Bamako

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The 6th meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) forum on the monitoring system assessment and annual meeting of the national offices of the sub-regional organisation opened in Bamako on Tuesday.

The Bamako meeting will address the challenges of Vision 2020, which is to make ECOWAS a borderless and integrated region where people can move freely.

Participants will also discuss promoting peace and stability in the ECOWAS space that is made up of Burkina Faso, Benin, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Niger Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Togo.

Established in 1975, the Economic Community of West African States is a West African intergovernmental organization with the aim to coordinate actions of West African countries with the main aim of promoting cooperation and integration.

Its ultimate goal is to create an economic and monetary union in West Africa.
