60 asylum seekers released from Libya for transfer to Rwanda

Tripoli Libya (PANA) - A total of 60 asylum seekers, released from a detention center in Libya, will be evacuated from the country, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

"Sixty asylum seekers from the Suuk Khamis detention center were released," UNHCR said, adding that they will be transferred to Rwanda in the coming days.

The group was transferred to Misratah (approximately 200 km east of Tripoli) pending their evacuation to Rwanda, UNHCR said, indicating that humanitarian aid, consisting of basic foodstuffs and medical services, is being provided to the refugees.

PANA reports that the UNHCR has continued to call for the closure of detention centers in Libya and the orderly release of refugees, urging increased aid, legally provided by various countries, for asylum seekers and refugees.
