30 bandits, including the mastermind of attack on Ivorian army, arrested

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) – About 30 bandits, including the mastermind of the 11 June attack on the Ivorian army, have been arrested, the Burkinabe army chief of staff, General Lassina Doumbia, indicated on Thursday in a communiqué here.  

Following the attack against the joint security post of Kafolo on 11 June, 2020, in northern Côte d’Ivoire, authorities swung into action in a joint patrol and search of the enemy under the operation ‘’Retorsion’’, Doumbia said.

"On the 13th day of the operation, the death toll is set as followed: - about 30 arrested, including fighters and intelligence agents." he said.

He added that among the fighters is the mastermind of the Kafolo attack, Sidibe Ali, alias «SOFIANE» of Burkina Faso. He was arrested after a painstaking search.

Weapons, motorcycles, mobile phones and food were also seized, Doumbia said, adding that the Operation and investigations are continuing to identify all those who took part in that terrorist attack or helped organize it.

He said that the president of the Republic encourages the defence and security forces to carry on the fight to bring back security in that border region and maintain peace all over the national territory. 

According Doumbia, the dead will be honoured on Thursday, 2 July, 2020.
