2023 AFCON: South Africa beat Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties to reach semi-final

Yamoussoukro, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - South Africa reached the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire when they beat Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties in their quarter-final match played in Yamoussoukro on Saturday night.

The match ended 0-0 after extra time.

South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was the hero of the night as he saved four of five kicks by Cape Verde.

South Africa managed to score only two of their four shots but that was enough to give them the ticket to meet Nigeria in the semi-final on Wednesday.
