2023 AFCON: Mali edge past Burkina Faso 2-1 to reach quarter-finals

Korhogo, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - Mali reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d'Ivoire when they beat neighbours Burkina Faso 2-2 in their Round of 16 match at Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly in Korhogo on Tuesday. 

Disaster struck Burkina Faso when they conceded an own goal when the match was only 3 minutes old when defender Edmond Tapsoba conceded an own goal.

Lassine Sinayoko made it 2-0 in the 47th minute before Bertrand Traoré reduced the tally to 2-1 when he converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute for Burkina Faso.

Mali will meet hosts Cote d'Ivoire at Stade de la Paix in Bouake on Saturday in the quarter-finals.
