2019 AFCON: Ghana beat Benin to top Group F; Cameroon go through with barren draw with Benin

Suez, Egypt (PANA) - Ghana on Tuesday beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their final Group F match in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt to top the group and qualify for the Round of 16.

After two draws in their first two matches (2-2 with Benin and 0-0 with Cameroon) the Ghana Black Stars scored two second half goals through Jordan Ayew in the 46th minute and Thomas Patey in the 72nd minute to leapfrog Benin and Cameroon to the top with 5 points.

In a tight group, defending champions Cameroon only managed a barren draw against Benin to also end with 5 points but with inferior goal difference to Ghana's. Ghana scored 4 goals and conceded 2 while Cameroon managed only 2 goals but conceded none.

Benin drew all three group matches (2-2 with Ghana and barren draws with Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon) to end up with 3 points while Guinea-Bissau go home with 1 point.

Cameroon will play Nigeria in the Round of 16 while Ghana's opponents will be determined after the final Group E matches on Tuesday night.
