2019 AFCON: Algeria scores highest number of goals; Burundi, Guinea Bissau fail to score

Cairo, Egypt (PANA) - With the finalists of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cairo next Friday having been determined following Sunday's pulsating semi-final matches, Algeria have popped up as the country that have scored the highest number of goals so far.

Algeria, who will play Senegal in the final in Cairo on Friday, have scored 11 goals after playing 6 matches, according to statistics on the website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Africa's football governing body.

Senegal have also played 6 matches and scored 7 goals.

Nigeria, who will play Tunisia for the bronze on Wednesday, have also played 6 matches and scored 8 goals while Tunisia have scored 6 goals from 6 matches.

Debutants, Madagascar, played 5 matches and scored 7 goals.

Two countries - Burundi and Guinea Bissau - ended the tournament without scoring a goal. They both played 3 matches and were eliminated at the group stage.

Angola, Mauritania, Namibia and Zimbabwe scored only one goal each from 3 matches.

According to CAF's statistics, 96 goals have been scored after 50 matches. Only two matches remain - the match for the bronze and the grand final.

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo is the leading scorer with 4 goals while four players - Sadio Mane of Senegal; Adam Ounas and Riyad Mahrez of Algeria; and Cedric Bakambu of DR Congo have scored 3 goals each.

Four players scored own goals. They are Itamuna Keimuinie (Namibia), Rami Bedoui (Tunisia), Dilan Bronn (Tunisia) and William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria)
