2014 FIFA WC: Ivorian FA takes blame for team's poor outing in Brazil

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (PANA) - The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has taken the blame for the team's poor outing at the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the Elephants were eliminated in the first round.

in a statement posted on its website, FIF expressed ''deep regrets'' over the ''sad defeat'' of the team, saying it had drawn the necessary lessons and will make amends.

It promised to take stock of what transpired in Brazil and report to the government, club leaders and the people of the country.

The Ivorian team failed to reach the knockout stage of the tournament, just like it failed to progress from the group stage in the two previous editions in which it participated.

Together with Cameroon and Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire was eliminated from the tournament.

PANA reports that two other African teams, Algeria and Nigeria, made it to the round of 16, the first time Africa will have two teams in the second round at the same World Cup.
