"Release of prisoners in Zaouia, a positive step towards reconciliation", says Libyan PM

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba, says the release of pro-Marshall Khalifa Haftar detainees from the city of Zaouia is a ‘’positive step’’ towards national reconciliation.

"The future and progress of Libya depends on its capacity to handle conflicts, thanks to national reconciliation and the rule of law," he said in a tweet, underlining that the release of the prisoners on Wednesday morning represented a significant step in the right direction.

Altogether, 120 pro-Haftar fighters who were detained during April’s military attack against the Libyan capital, Tripoli, were released on Wednesday during a ceremony witnessed by the vice-chairmen of the Presidential Council, Abdallah al-Lafi, and Moussa al-Kouni, the president of the High Council of State, Khaled al-Mechri, some Libyan ministers, members of the Chamber of Representatives (Parliament) and representatives of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

Libyans and the international community commended the Libyan government for releasing the prisoners, saying that the move is a significant step towards national reconciliation which the Libyan people aspire to.
