Bamako, Mali (PANA) - A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Vice President of the Commission of the sub-regional organization, Mrs. Finda Koroma, has visited Mali's National Early Warning and Response Centre (CNAP) in Bamako to discuss with staff the challenges it faces and the situation in Mali, said a statement issued by the Malian Prime Minister's Office on Saturday.
The CNAP, established in 2017, has the main mission of collecting information and data on all the challenges of human security in general, with security, violent extremism, terrorism, crime and crime as the main themes as well as cross-border crime, migration, environment, health and governance in order to "analyze and be able to give notes, reports or warning sheets to governments".
CNAP Director Lassana Doumbia said that the Centre's structure was born with the development of the early warning directorate of the ECOWAS. It was inaugurated in 2017 by President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
On behalf of Malian authorities, he thanked the sub-regional institution for supporting the Centre's structure to further develop its capabilities for facing security challenges, environmental, health, crime and crime-related issues.
"That is why today I would like to warmly welcome the ECOWAS Vice President so that we can exchange, share the challenges facing the sub-region, and the Centre, in particular, to participate in the prevention and monitoring of conflicts that are now the main concern of the Malian authorities and the sub-region in general," Doumbia said.
The ECOWAS Commission Vice President thanked members of the CNAP for their determination despite the difficult conditions the face and congratulated them for the quality of their collaboration with its structure.
According to ECOWAS officials, the products of CNAP must be known, disseminated and appropriated by other structures in order to take into account their recommendations to prevent any kind of crises, especially related to transhumance.
