Jordanian and Qatari airlines to resume flights to Libya this month
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Minister of Transport, Mohamed al-Chahoubi, has announced the return of Royal Jordanian and Qatar Airways flights to and from Libya from this month.
He added that discussions are underway with Saudi Airlines to also resume its flights.
This announcement was made during a meeting held on Sunday in Tripoli by the Prime Minister, Abdulhamid Al-Dbaiba, with Mr. al-Chahoubi, to give the government a clearer picture of the situation.
The meeting was attended by the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Mohamed Chleibak, the head of the Airport Authority, Mohamed Beit al-Mal, the head of the Transport Projects Implementation Agency, Sami al-Abach, the Minister of State for Council of Ministers Affairs, Adel Jumaa, and a number of department heads at the Airport Authority, according to a statement published on the government plantform Hakomitna.
Mr Al-Dbaiba stressed the need to provide local airports with the necessary equipment, in accordance with the requirements of the Aviation Authority, in order to facilitate the movement of citizens between Libyan cities.
He gave instructions to focus on completing the passenger terminal at Tripoli International Airport according to the approved timetable, and to start the contractual procedures to implement the main project for commissioning Tripoli International Airport, which has been stalled since 2010, after examining the designs and the technical aspects and studies.
Mr Al-Dbaiba also instructed the Civil Aviation Authority to communicate with the organisations involved in lifting the ban imposed on the Libyan state and to work towards opening up new international flight destinations.
Mr Chleibak emphasised that the Civil Aviation Authority was working professionally with international organisations to implement international requirements for lifting the air embargo and to contract with a number of international companies for the supply and installation of navigation assistance systems and stations for air navigation centres, which would contribute to lifting the embargo.
Mr al-Abach also presented an overview of the timetable for the construction of the passenger terminal with all its annexes and the civil and electrical works for the start-up of the site, stressing that the works are progressing well.
The meeting was devoted to monitoring the Airport Authority's plan to activate local airports and provide them with the necessary equipment, and to monitoring the Civil Aviation Authority's executive procedures concerning the opening of new international destinations and the implementation of the World Aviation Organisation's requirements to lift the freeze on Libyan airports.
The timetable for the implementation of the passenger terminal at Tripoli International Airport, additional operational works and the inventory of works carried out as part of the main airport implementation project were also discussed during the meeting.
