European companies willing to support NEPAD

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - A leading French businessman said Monday in Dakar that European enterprises were willing to contribute to the financing of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).

Michel Roussin, chairman of the Movement of French Enterprises (MEDEF), said: "We are willing to set up technical working groups that will be in charge of identifying priority sectors. These groups will formed by big European enterprises working in these sectors."

Roussin was speaking at the opening of a three-day conference on the participation of the private sector in NEPAD financing. He is representing 47 employers' organisations, including MEDEF International, at the conference.

The former French Co-operation minister said European enterprises want to establish a partnership between African and European private sectors in order to encourage the international private sector in Africa.

"I confirm the interest and the support of European enterprises for NEPAD. The African private sector should establish dialogue with the European private sector, which will facilitate contacts with investors," he said, urging African states to improve their economic environment and make more attractive to foreign investment.
