Osaka is located near the geographical heart of Japan.

Over the years, the city once known as the "City of Waters" due to its many rivers, has developed into the main city of Japan's western half.

In fact, Osaka is the third largest city in Japan with 2.6 million people.

Osaka has prospered as a centre of free enterprise. Many affluent businesses are based in the city and have laid the groundwork for a modern urban infrastructure and rich
cultural traditions.

Today, Osaka continues to actively benefit from this prosperous heritage and a happy, healthy standard of living. People from Osaka are known among other Japanese as
"Kuidaore" because of their ability to not only work hard during the day but to also play hard throughout the night.

Osaka is developing into a truly international city of the 21st century through initiatives such as the new Kansai International Airport.

The city is presently undergoing an architectural renaissance, with aims to become a focus for people, goods and information from around the world.

Osaka's role will be essential not only in the development of the Kansai region, but in the cultural and economic advancement of the entire nation.
