Chairman of Libyan Council reaffirms his institution's efforts to achieve stability in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, has affirmed that the political process in Libya has seen positive developments.

He noting the continued efforts of the Presidential Council to cooperate with all parties to achieve stability in the country.

In a speech to the 33rd Arab Summit held on Thursday in the Bahraini capital, Manama, Mr. al-Manfi cited among the positive developments in the political process in Libya the results of the efforts made by the 5+5 Committee and the Supreme Financial Committee, which established the principle of transparency in public spending.

He added that the Libyan people reject "negative" external interference in Libya's internal affairs, stressing that the Presidential Council was making "every effort with everyone to propose initiatives aimed at strengthening confidence between the parties to organize elections and put an end to the transitional stages".

Mr. al-Manfi praised the role of the Arab League with regard to Libya and its support for the Libyan dialogue to achieve free and fair elections as soon as possible.

The Libyan leader indicated that contacts would continue with everyone, without exception, and that initiatives would be proposed to strengthen confidence between the parties and create a consensus that would lead the country to elections.

Mr. al-Manfi reaffirmed Libya's firm commitment and strong support for the Palestinian people in their historic struggle against occupation.

He declared: "We stand by our firm and steadfast position in support of the Palestinian people," once again condemning the brutal aggression against the people of Gaza in particular and Palestine in general, whose lives have been affected by the brutality of the entire war of occupation.

In his speech, the chairman of the Presidential Council said that Libya had joined South Africa's complaint against the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinians.

The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council took part on Thursday in the capital, Manama, in the work of the thirty-third session of the Council of the League of Arab States at summit level.

Present are leaders of Arab countries, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, the Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the Commission of the African Union and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The Bahrain Summit aims to crystallize a new phase of joint Arab action by stepping up diplomatic initiatives and efforts, giving priority to the language of dialogue, adopting the path of a just and comprehensive peace and reaching lasting solutions to common problems applicable on the ground and based on an Arab viewpoint approach to achieve lasting security and regional stability.

The summit will provide appropriate conditions and mechanisms that will contribute to the realization of the aspirations and hopes of the Arab peoples and the vital interests for the prosperity of all countries in the region, according to a statement by the Presidential Council.
