Libyan Council of State pledges support for AU's reconciliation steps
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan High Council of State is ready to support efforts of the African Union High Level Committee for Libya to achieve a comprehensive national reconciliation in the North African country.
This was stated by chairman of the High Council of State, Mohamed Tekkala, at a meeting in Tripoli on Saturday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, Jean-Claude Gakosso, representing the Chairman of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo.
Mr Tekkala praised the role of the AU and Congo, particularly in the issue of Libyan reconciliation, since the official announcement of its launch in September 2021.
A preparatory meeting on the recociliation is expected to be held in Zouara, 120 km west of Tripoli, on Sunday and Monday in preparation for a comprehensive reconciliation conference scheduled for Sirte in April.
Mr. Gakosso welcomed the response and cooperation shown by the High Council of State in bridging the gap and resolving disagreements between the various parties so as to achieve objectives in the interests of the people, based on national foundations and constants, in accordance with the Constitutional Declaration and the agreements reached in Skhirat and Geneva.
Mr. Gakosso arrived in Tripoli from Tunis where he met Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed, to whom he conveyed an invitation from President Nguesso to visit Brazzaville to discuss the Libyan issue.
