Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The US embassy has issued a clarification concerning what it described as "false information" circulating to the effect that the US security company Amentum had provided training to armed groups in Libya on behalf of the US government.
In a post on Friday on its account on the "X" platform, the US embassy added that "these claims are not factual and misrepresent the classroom training that Amentum provides outside Libya for law enforcement personnel".
In its publication, the US embassy explained that "Amentum is an implementing partner of the State Department's Counterterrorism Assistance Programme, managed worldwide by the Bureau of Diplomatic Security".
The US State Department said on its website that the Diplomatic Security Service's (DSS) Counterterrorism Assistance (CTA) programme provides US government counterterrorism training and equipment to law enforcement agencies in partner countries around the world.
Since its inception in 1983, the ATA has provided counterterrorism training to more than 150,000 law enforcement officials and first responders from more than 150 countries, according to the same source.
Recent media reports have indicated that members of the American security firm Amentum have arrived in Libya to train soldiers and several armed groups in the Libyan capital Tripoli.
