Ivorians panic as "battle for Abidjan" becomes imminent

Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - There is widespread panic among Ivorian civilians as forces loyal to Laurent Gbagbo and those of Alassane Ouattara reposition themselves for a "huge" battle, reportedly coming on this weekend.

According to official sources, the Ouattara troops, having made huge gains in the "war" by  running over the Gbagbo forces in several towns already taken, are preparing for the "final onslaught" on Abidjan, the Ivorian capital.

The Young Patriots, ardent supporters of Gbagbo, have been holding night vigil since Wednesday in readiness to defend their Yopougon district, where sounds of gun shots were heard all night.

The battle for Abidjan could be monumental, especially since the fighters loyal to Ouattara are already on the offensive towards the city.
