Ivorian women's national soccer team for Dakar tourney

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- A 22-member Ivorian women's national football team (Lady Elephants) will participate in a sub-regional tournament from 29 April to 6 May in Dakar, Senegal, sporting sources said here Wednesday.
The chairman of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), Jacques Anouma, said the participation of the 'Lady Elephants' was in fulfilment of the federation's plans to "encourage" the female national football team in continental competitions.
Local club Juventus provided 16 of the 22 players, while the six others come from Omness, Amazones, San Pedro and JCA clubs.
The Ivorian team, which leaves for Dakar on Thursday, will play against Togo, Niger, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso and Senegal, the host nation.
FIF commission president François Kouassi said the Dakar tournament would help prepare the Ivorian 'Lady Elephants' for the female category of the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup finals.
