Ivorian intellectuals support Marcoussis peace deal

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- Representatives of the African Network of Ivorian Intellectuals for Peace, Democracy and Governance have declared their support for the Marcoussis agreements signed last January in France to end the military uprising in Cote d'Ivoire.
At the end of a three-day meeting, which ended here Sunday, the association said the Linas-Marcoussis Agreements offer Cote d'Ivoire the best chance to achieve peace and national reconciliation.
It urged the national reconciliation government and the political class as large to continue discussions towards a consensus concerning the revision of certain articles of the Constitution.
It also recommended public funding of political parties and opposition groups, as well as the redeployment of civil servants, the restoration of peace countrywide, followed by the implementation of an emergency reconstruction programme.
