Ivorian experts strategize against HIV/AIDS

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- A national consultation was held Thursday in Abi djan, the Ivorian capital, on the development of a global strategy towards the f i ght against HIV/AIDS, at the initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The objective of the consultation was to gather inputs from Cote d'Ivoire, with a view to preparing the final document of the global strategy in the fight again s t HIV/AIDS for the period 2011-2015.
It was to set global targets in the health sector in fighting against HIV/AIDS, to guide national responses against this pandemic, before providing a framework f or concerted action by WHO at national, regional and global levels.
According to the Ivorian Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr.
Aka Aouele, the programme will throw up better results for preventing, treating and providin g care to HIV-hit people as well as for building strong and sustainable health sy s tems in fighting against the infection.
Aouele highlighted some other targets like serious problems relating to public h ealth and said these were aimed at reducing vulnerability to HIV and combat stru c tural barriers for a better access to the programme against HIV.
"We need that everyone should be involved and together we will be stronger in co mbating HIV/AIDS as we had done against any other disease or any other developme n t issues," the WHO resident representative, Dr.
Mamadou Ball, said.
