Ivorian Electricity Company absolves self of blame in power cuts

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) - The Ivorian Electricity Company (CIE) has absolved itself of blames for the consequences and damage that might result from the power cuts experienced since Wednesday in the North and West centre (CNO) under the control of the ex-rebellion of the New Forces.

In a statement Sunday, CIE said "those powercuts followed the demand, made since 19 January by  Ministry of Mines and Energy of the government of Laurent Gbagbo for the distribution of power and energy," which is depriving populations and economic operators of electricity and water in areas targeted by Gbagbo’s government.

In January, during a similar power outage, the New Forces had denounced "an armed robbery" and "violation of the basic human rights" by the side supporting Gbagbo, who said the requision measure made by the national distribution centre are for "national security reasons".
