Italian NGO starts immunisation drive in Congo

Brazzaville- Congo (PANA) -- Italian Non-Governmental Organisation Ali Per Volare will on Tuesday launch a 20-day immunisation campaign against various diseases in northern Congo.
The exercise, which will be conducted in partnership with the Congolese Health Ministry and Rotary International, covers about 10 diseases including diphteria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis and meningitis.
"This gesture we are going to make in the Enyellé forests is aimed at helping indigenous populations in their environment," Ali Per Volare Manager Rino Martinez told reporters here.
He said that the campaign would target children from birth to 59 months and expectant women living in eight villages in the Enyellé district.
Martinez noted that the vaccination would be conducted in two phases - from 3 to 9 February and from 17 to 23 February.
