International Contact Group on Liberia to negotiate cease-fire

Abuja- Nigeria (PANA) -- The third meeting of the International Contact Group on Liberia, scheduled for Accra, Ghana April 14-16, will negotiate a cease-fire between the Liberian government and Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) rebels, ECOWAS officials said in Abuja Monday.
ECOWAS Executive Secretary Mohammed Ibn Chambas, said the meeting would also discuss enforcement of a possible cease-fire.
According to him the situation in Liberia is not getting any better, adding: "The sub-region is concerned that things do not degenerate further.
" Chambas said the Accra meeting would also work with the government of Liberia to create an enabling environment for the organisation of a free and fair election in the country later this year.
The International Contact Group on Liberia comprises the UN, African Union, European Union, ECOWAS, US, France, UK, Nigeria, Ghana and Morocco.
It is co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of Ghana and Sweden.
