EgyptAir announces special Tripoli - Sharm el-Sheikh flights from Tuesday
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - EgyptAir has announced that it will start operating special flights between the airport of Maitigua, in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and Sharm el-Sheikh, an Egyptian resort town located between the Sinai Peninsula desert and the Red Sea, from next Tuesday.
"EgyptAir flights are expected to continue between Maitigua and Sharm el-Sheikh until October 11, to transport tourist groups from Libya's sister country to Sharm el-Sheikh," the Egyptian government portal, Al-Ahram in Cairo, announced on Sunday, according to Al-Wasat newspaper.
The newspaper said that the chairman of the board of directors of EgyptAir's holding company, Amr Abu al-Ainin, explained that this was part of the Ministry of Civil Aviation's strategy to activate air and tourist traffic to Egypt from various regional and global air transport markets and provide all facilities for those coming to tourist attraction airports inside Egypt.
It has been agreed to operate flights between Maitigua and Sharm el-Sheikh airports, one flight per week, aboard EgyptAir's Boeing B737-800 aircraft, with a capacity of 154 passengers, which will help boost the Libyan tourist movement to Egypt, it says.
These flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will be the first since 2014 for EgyptAir to the capital, Tripoli, after resuming flights to Benghazi's Benina airport since 18 April, at a rate of one flight per day, after an eight-year interruption.
In September 2021, the civil aviation authorities of Egypt and Libya agreed to take the necessary steps to restart flights between Libyan airports Maitigua, Misrata and Benina and Cairo International Airport.
