Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) -
The metropolitan fiber optics project, a high-speed
communication system, will become operational in early April throughout Rwanda,
an
official source said in Kigali.
"At the end of March, the metropolitan fiber optics infrastructure will be
fully installed in Rwanda," according to Patrick Nyirishema, assistant
executive director of the Rwandan Information Technology Agency.
''The project should connect at least 700 public institutions as well as
community development facilities," Nyirishema said, but did not disclose
the cost of the project.
According to experts in new information and communication technologies
(NICTs), the project will significantly lower the cost of telecommunications
across the African continent and contribute to bridging the "digital gap".
